Setting up Gouverneur

Gouverneur & Co BV was founded in 1938 as a small family-run business by a bulb producer, Cor Gouverneur.
In 1956, Cor GouverneurJos set up a wholesale Cash & Carry in Germany: Gouverneur Handels GMBH in Herongen/ Straelen, which has since provided florists and smaller wholesales with fresh cut flowers on a daily basis.
Having graduated from the agricultural University of Wageningen with an engineer’s degree, Cor’s son Jos Gouverneur took over the business in 1976 and quickly explored new export markets in the busy flower sector throughout Europe.

Gouverneur and the Thomas Fleurs Group

As a young man Thom van Pul worked as an apprentice under Jos Gouverneur at the wholesale Cash & Carry Gouverneur GMBH in Germany, learning the trade and developing a passion for the flower industry.

When Thom van Pul set up his first Cash & Carry ‘Thomas Fleurs’ in Avignon in 1993, Gouverneur & Co became his supplier of cut-flowers.
Thomas Fleurs evolved to become the largest cut-flower wholesale in the South of France and a close bond developed between Thom van Pul and Jos Gouverneur.

Jos Gouverneur is currently a consultant to Thom van Pul, the owner of the stockmarket-listed business Thomas Fleurs SARL, which consists of 8 Cash and Carry’s throughout the South of France and Spain.

Complete synergy

In 2008, Thomas Fleurs SARL took over Gouverneur & Co, allowing for complete synergy and consolidated buying power in the purchase and transport of flowers throughout Europe. We take care to combine the traditions and values established in 1938 with modern technology and development in 2011 and beyond.
